Payment Term

Payment Term Calculator

Calculate the expected payment date from invoice date, closing day, and payment terms. Useful for managing accounts receivable in Japanese B2B transactions.

Understanding Japanese Payment Terms (支払いサイト)

In Japanese B2B commerce, payments are rarely made per delivery. Instead, businesses use a credit transaction (掛取引 / Kake Torihiki) system where invoices are batched monthly and paid on a later date. The payment schedule is defined by two key parameters:

  • Closing Day (締日 / Shimebi): The cutoff date for grouping invoices. Common choices are end-of-month, the 20th, or the 25th.
  • Payment Site (支払いサイト / Shiharai Saito): The period between the closing day and the actual payment date. For example, "末締め翌月末払い" (month-end closing, payment at end of following month) is the most common pattern.

A longer payment site means slower cash collection. The standard "month-end closing, next month-end payment" gives roughly 30-60 days. Some large corporations use "month-end closing, payment at end of month after next," which can mean waiting up to 90 days.

About This Tool

In Japanese B2B transactions, rather than paying per delivery, companies typically batch invoices monthly and pay on a scheduled date in a subsequent month. This tool calculates the actual payment date from the invoice date and the agreed closing day / payment terms. Use it for cash flow forecasting and accounts receivable management.

Calculation Logic

  1. Determine Closing Date: If the invoice date falls on or before the closing day, it belongs to that month's batch; otherwise, it rolls to the next month's closing.
  2. Determine Payment Date: Add the payment timing (same month / next month / month after next / 3 months) to the closing month, then apply the specified payment day.
  3. Month-End Adjustment: When "End of Month" is selected, the tool automatically uses the last calendar day (Feb 28/29, Apr/Jun/Sep/Nov 30, etc.).

Common Patterns

  • Month-end closing, next month-end payment: The most common pattern. e.g., Invoice Jun 15 → Closing Jun 30 → Payment Jul 31
  • 20th closing, next month-end payment: e.g., Invoice Jun 15 → Closing Jun 20 → Payment Jul 31
  • Month-end closing, payment at end of month after next: Common with large corporations. e.g., Invoice Jun 15 → Closing Jun 30 → Payment Aug 31

Note: This tool does not adjust for weekends or public holidays (as business day rules vary by company). Please confirm actual payment dates with your contract terms.
